About
Don Cox / Photographer
I began photographing nature in the late 60′s while living in Western Pennsylvania using my Father’s film cameras. Influenced by an older brother, I began collecting Canon equipment in the 70′s, and have continued that practice to the present day. Wandering through rural Western Pa during my “Wonder Years” with my father’s purloined camera, I never tired of capturing the beauty that manifested itself through my lens.
After attending California University of PA and earning degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science, I worked in Process Control, where the travel involved fueled my desire to photograph nature. After a stint as a newspaper photographer, wedding photography and portraiture became my staple. Nature photography still provides a therapeutic escape from the tedium and hectic pace of weddings.
I have been a field instructor assisting on photo tours in Colorado, Wyoming, and Rhode Island led by many famous nature photographers. By photographing and learning, from such photographers as Joe DiMaggio, JoAnne Kalish, Jack Dykinga, Reed Hoffman, Lou Jones, Jay Dickman, and Jack Graham, both my inspiration and technique has, and continues to be, cultivated. I now lead my own workshops throughout the United States as well as lectures and classroom instruction in digital photography. I continue to travel throughout the United States, Europe and Africa in pursuit of the perfect light!
I have been successful in publication as well. My work has appeared in a number of magazines and calendars, such as Nature (UK), as well as newspaper credits. Corporate work includes fine-prints for internal use in personal collections and one-man shows.
